Bureau Veritas Group and Envision Group Jointly Released the "Global Net-Zero Industrial Park Standard" to Help the World's First Zero-carbon Industrial Park Land in Ordos

2021 Oct 13

On October 12th, the "2021 Ordos Net-Zero Industry Summit" was grandly held. With the theme of "Net-Zero New Industry, New Science and Technology Ecology", the Summit brought together authorities from governments, enterprises, and research institutions around the world. The Summit launched the world's first Net-Zero industrial park, the Ordos "Envision Net-Zero Industrial Park". At the same time, Envision Group and Bureau Veritas jointly released the Global Net-Zero Industrial Park Standard.

Li Li, Secretary of the Ordos Municipal Party Committee, stated that this Summit aims to fully implement the "Dual-carbon" goal, seize new opportunities for the development of Net-Zero industry, and open up a new path for Net-Zero development, so as to contribute the strength of Ordos to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and even the whole country to achieve peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality on schedule.

Xie Zhenhua, China Special Envoy for Climate Change, congratulated the convening of this Summit and said that Ordos, as an important national energy base, is also an important node city for ecological protection and high-quality development strategies in the Yellow River Basin. There is a long way to go to realize the green and low-carbon transformation, and there are also many opportunities. If a transformation and innovation path that is in line with the actual situation of the region can be explored as soon as possible, it will not only help high-quality economic and social development, improve people's livelihood and well-being, improve the quality of the ecological environment, ensure the safety of energy supply, but also provide demonstration and reference significance for energy conservation, emission reduction, and carbon reduction in other regions of the country and even the world that rely mainly on fossil energy and have a heavy industrial structure.

Wang Lixia, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Jean-Marc Fenet, Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs of the French Embassy in China, Qian Zhimin, Chairman of the State Power Investment Corporation, Du Huiliang, Deputy Secretary of the Ordos Municipal Party Committee and Acting Mayor of the Government, etc., Lord Adair Turner, Chairman of the International Energy Transformation Committee, and Zhang Lei, CEO of Envision Group, witnessed the grand Summit. Jack Yang, General Manager of BNF, Bureau Veritas was also invited to attend.

Under the dual-carbon background, continuing to increase the total installed capacity of new energy, developing energy storage technology, and building "Net-Zero Industrial Parks" through new energy substitution and carbon emission management will become a key task for all localities in the future to alleviate the energy crisis, achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, and drive the green economy and high-quality development. Abundant renewable energy has become the trump card for Inner Mongolia and Ordos to take the lead in achieving Net-Zero transformation and green development. This time, Ordos and Envision Group jointly released the world's first Net-Zero Industrial Park——the Ordos "Envision Net-Zero Industrial Park", which will promote the development of the two trillion-level industries of EV and new energy, and promote a green new industrial revolution.

At the same time, Bureau Veritas Group and Envision Group released the world's first "Global Net-Zero Industrial Park Standard", which put forward four requirements for industrial parks covering Net-Zero energy, intelligent management, industrial recycling and social carbon reduction. The standard was in line with international standards and consistent with the requirements of the Science-Based targets (SBTi), helping the enterprises in the park to achieve voluntary emission reduction targets. In the future, a Net-Zero industrial park that meets the "Global Net-Zero Industrial Park Standard" will have four major characteristics: build a new industrial system based on Net-Zero energy, promote the development and application of Net-Zero industries and technologies, have an intelligent management core, and create low-carbon transformation momentum for the region.

Jack Yang, General Manager of BNF, Bureau Veritas , said: "Dual-carbon is a very important issue, and it is also a relatively urgent issue. As for how to promote the development of dual-carbon as soon as possible, we have many different ways, and the Net-Zero industrial park is one of the more important aspects because industrial energy consumption and industrial carbon emissions are more than half of the country. As a world-renowned Technical Service Agency, Bureau Veritas Group will propose Bureau Veritas wisdom to contribute to the sustainable development of the world."

Zhang Lei, CEO of Envision Group, said: "The combination of green energy, transportation and chemical industry will be the starting point for the vigorous development of the Ordos Net-Zero Industrial Park. China not only has to provide Net-Zero industrial parks for the world, but also has the responsibility to promote the practice of Net-Zero industrial parks to the "Belt and Road" countries and countries that strive for carbon neutrality. Therefore, we have to turn our best practices into standards. Envision Group and Bureau Veritas Group, the world's leading standards agency in France, are working together to develop Global Net-Zero Industrial Park Standard, hoping that this Standard can be promoted from Inner Mongolia to the rest of the world."
