2020 Jan 10

Bureau Veritas convened its first large summit forum of the year in Xi'an on January 3, 2020. The forum, lectured by two senior experts of Bureau Veritas with the theme of "Improve Quality towards Excellence", attracted some 130 guests from more than 60 prestigious enterprises, including AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., AVIC XAC Commercial Aircraft Co., Ltd., and many other enterprises affiliated to AVIC and AECC, Tianshui Huatian Technology Co., Ltd. and Shaanxi Fast.

The new FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis) is the result of three years' work by the OEM and primary-supplier members of Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA). Since the release of the new edition of FMEA in the last June, a wave of learning has swept the automobile industry. Bureau Veritas has hosted many FMEA seminars and open trainings in the major cities acorss China, to help enterprises understand the new FMEA as early as possible. At this summit forum, we held another in-depth discussion over the new FMEA to satisfy the demand of the enterprises across the extensive Northwest China.

In the past half a year, the new FMEA, a tool that is applicable to not only automobile industry, but also aviation and areospace, high-speed railway and other manufacturing enterprises, has been receiving the largest share of attentions from the testing and certification industry. "What FMEA offers is not a theory, but an executable method designed to help enterprises evaluate the technical risk of possible product/process failure, analyze the causes and effects of the failure, record, prevent and explore countermeasures to the failure, and propose risk-mitigating advises. It aims to truly improve the enterprises' product quality, reduce customer complaints and cut production and R&D costs, as well as accumulate knowledge and experiences," said Guo Jinsheng, the senior expert of Bureau Veritas, in his speech.

The starting point of an enterprise establishing and operating its quality management system is to improve the effectiveness of the quality management system, in order to ensure the realization of operation objectives, including the quality objectives. At this summit forum, Li Changsheng, a senior AS 9100 audit specialist of Certification Division of Bureau Veritas, addressed the audience on the effectiveness of quality management system. He first clarified the definition of quality management system's effectiveness, then discussed how to achieve this effectiveness from planning, implementation and other aspects, and at last explained how to measure and improve the effectiveness.

Li Changsheng said in his speech that: "As we come to the second decade of the 21st century, the Certification Division of Bureau Veritas will put effectiveness of quality management system at the heart of its business, with a view to providing customers with better and more effective audit and training services." He also hopes that Bureau Veritas' customers will, in the new age, continue to properly operate their quality management systems. While maintaining the compliance with quality management system, the customers should strive to realize the effectiveness of their quality management systems, and punctually deliver satisfactory products and services to their customers, thus achieving their operation objectives.

With customers' demand for continuously higher-level quality, products are becoming increasingly complicated, and the applicable laws and regulations are requiring the design service providers and manufacturers to take on more and more product liabilities. All these have made effectiveness of quality management system an urgent issue faced by enterprises in their path of development. The purpose of an enterprise building and operating its quality management system is not only to meet the required standards, but also to ensure punctual delivery of satisfactory products and services to customers by effective operation of quality management system, thus achieving the operation objectives of the organization.
