What is the RSPO?

Founded in 2004, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil is a not-for-profit association with theobjective to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil. Seven sectors of the palm oilindustry take part in the decision process including producers, processors or traders, manufacturers,retailers, banks and investors, environmental conservation NGOs and social or developmental NGOs.

RSPO Supply Chain Certification Systems: An Explanation

RSPO Supply Chain Certification Systems is a standard to certify conformity of supply chains usingRSPO certified sustainable palm oil or products derived thereof. The objective is to involve the entiresupply chain, by reaching out to the consumer.
Several traceability models are available: Identity Preserved (IP), Segregated (SG), or Mass Balanced (MP).It addresses millers, refiners, processors, manufacturers, traders, retailers and others stakeholdersfrom the supply chain.

  • How can I use the RSPO logo to promote my business?

    As a certified company, you will be able to promote your commitment by using the RSPO logo. Depending on your situation, two possible claims exist:

    “This product contains certified sustainable palm oil.”
    - used by both ‘Identity preserved’ and ‘Segregation’ systems

    “Contributes to the production of certified sustainable palm.”
    - used by both ‘Mass balance’ and ‘Book and claim’ systems This logo can be used on products and packaging.
    The RSPO certification is meaningful for your client and final consumer. Its communication will be a pillar of your sustainable development policy.


    1 Completion of application form and selection of your supply chain model
    2 Signing of contract
    3 On-site audit
    4 Issuing of certificate, if no items are flagged
    5 Registration of certificate on the RSPO website
    6 One audit per year

    The certificate lifetime is 5 years with annual surveillance audit.

    According to this standard, you will be able to include several sites in the scope of your certification.
