Bureau Veritas Awarded China’s First Platform Screen Door SIL3 Certificate to Panasonic

09/04/18

On April 3rd, Bureau Veritas awarded Panasonic Manufacturing (Beijing) Co., Ltd China’s first SIL3 certificate for subway platform screen doors. The awarding ceremony was held at Bureau Veritas headquarters, and attended by Bureau Veritas, Panasonic and Guangzhou Subway.

Mr. Emmanuel Danion, Vice President of Bureau Veritas Greater China, on behalf of Bureau Veritas, congratulated Panasonic on this certification. He said that SIL3 certified Panasonic platform screen doors would undoubtedly stay at the forefront of the platform screen door industry. He hoped that Panasonic could take this certification result as a new starting point to further explore the international market.

Cao Zinan,  Senior Manager  of TLE Department, Bureau Veritas Greater China, stated that for a long period of time, there was no requirement for certification of screen doors used in domestic subways. With the development of automated driverless subways, the requirement has been gradually raised. Bureau Veritas has undertaken much screen door security business in China. Currently, SIL2 certification is the mainstream in the country. The SIL3 certificate issued this time is the highest level of certification in China's existing subway platform screen door system. For manufacturers, an SIL3 certificate can greatly enhance its comprehensive strength from the perspective of technology and standardization, and play a very important role in safety.
“Thanks to Bureau Veritas for awarding us China’s first SIL3 certificate for screen doors. It is a great affirmation of Panasonic's technical capabilities and has also contributed to the development of automated driverless subways in China.” said Liu Xiaoxuan, director of Panasonic Rail Transit Division.

Bureau Veritas has issued SIL2 certificates for platform doors to KTK Group and Nanjing Kangni. This SIL3 assessment of Panasonic platform doors in Beijing is unprecedented in terms of project period and difficulty. According to the assessment reference EN50126/8/9, SIL3's process requirements and safety design are more stringent, and its tolerable hazard rate (THR) of safety failure is increased by an order of magnitude.

As an independent and professional third-party organization, Bureau Veritas pays close attention to market demands and technical challenges, and is committed to providing customers with all-round services and innovative solutions to ensure that their products and facilities meet quality and safety standards, thereby helping customers improve the competitiveness of their products and businesses. Danion said that Bureau Veritas hopes for cooperation with Panasonic's innovation to promote industry sustainability.
