Bureau Veritas Successfully Held the Training of ISO26262 Standard for Automotive Functional Safety

27/03/18

Recently, Bureau Veritas (hereinafter referred to as BV) successfully held a three-day ISO26262 training course in Taiwan. This training aims to assist Taiwan Innolux to meet the requirements from major OEMs, especially Peugeot Citroen's requirements on ISO26262. A total of 47 personnel including the software and hardware development, quality, and related project development managers have participated in the training. Mr. Zheng Wei, authorized instructor of Bureau Veritas Safety Qualification Training, explained in detail the concepts of ISO26262, functional safety management, ASIL definition and distribution, system, hardware, software level development and support process, and shared them through practical cases so that participants can intuitively understand the requirements of ISO26262.

As a world-renowned third-party testing and certification agency, Bureau Veritas has more than 20 years of professional experience in functional safety. It not only owns COFRAC-approved functional safety testing laboratory but has a strong team of experts to provide customers with one-stop service and solution. In the automotive industry, BV has gained much consulting and certification experience in numerous projects such as Bosch, Renault, Autoliv, Marelli, Delphi, Foglia, and ACTIA.

In terms of functional safety, as an international leading provider of functional safety services, Bureau Veritas can provide independent evaluation and certification service based on IEC 61508 series standards (process industry IEC61511, nuclear power IEC61513, automotive ISO26262, machinery IEC62061, etc.), which is a reliable guarantee for the normal operation of functional safety products and system that provides excellent added value for the products.

What is Functional Safety (FS)?
In the field of modern industrial control, the extensive use of programmable electronic hardware and software systems has greatly enhanced the degree of automation. However, due to the lack of equipment design, and the lack of risk management awareness in development and manufacturing, these products with design defects have flowed into safety control systems of related industries and have caused frequent disasters such as personal safety, property damage and environmental hazards. Therefore, countries all over the world have always attached great importance to the safety design technology of the petrochemical process safety control system, the power plant safety control system and the nuclear power safety control system, and have developed a mature set of product safety design technology related to electronic, electrical and programmable electronic security control systems, that is "Functional Safety" technology.

Europe and the United States have issued a set of Product Directives and Design Standards related to functional safety, and have gone deep into various fields, such as: automotive (ISO26262) track control (EN 5012X), nuclear power (EN 61513), industrial equipment and machine control (EN 62601, EN ISO 13849-1/2), process control (EN 61511), etc. Internationally, IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and other series of standards formed by IEC have gradually become the basic functional safety standards widely recognized by various countries and industries. Having emulated and formed corresponding national standards, China is also referring to other industry functional safety standards to prepare its national industry standards.
